If you only have a printed copy of your book (i.e no Word Doc or digital version) we can still produce a fully functional eBook version of your title. The first step is to digitize your book: to transform it from print to a Word file.
We work with many authors who wish to take control of titles, where rights have reverted. We can convert your out-of-print titles from book to Word to eBook format and help you publish via all the major retailers.
From Printed Book to Word file.
The process from hard copy to digital version involves removing and separating all the pages from the printed book and then producing a hi-res scan of each page. We then run each scan through a professional OCR program which extracts the text (and images/graphs/tables) and consolidates the content into a Word document. At this stage we run a number of automated checks to ensure that any common errors which this type of process often creates are picked up and corrected. Then we take a look through the document to check that there are no other obvious problems. Once we are happy with the file we will email it to you so that you can check and approve it. This is also a perfect opportunity for you to make any updates or changes that you want to, before the eBook conversion process begins.
Accuracy and Proofreading
Our digitizing process usually creates extremely accurate and clean results, however due to the steps involved we can not guarantee 100% accuracy. We will always provide the Word file to you for final approval and will not proceed with converting to eBook format unless you have signed-off the file. We can employ the services of a professional proofreader to go through your Word file and the price for this will depend upon the length and complexity of your book. Pricing from $200/£150
Conversion from printed book to an editable Word doc:
- Up to 300 pages: $200/£150
- Add an extra $30/£20 for each 50 pages after 300
Ideally you will be able to provide us with two printed copies of your book in good condition. One will be taken apart prior to scanning and the other will be used for checking (and can be returned to you if you wish).
If your titles are still available it may be possible for us to source them (at additional cost).
If the printed copy of your book is in poor condition or the type is not clear it may create problems during the scanning/OCR process which this may incur additional time/costs to complete. We will, of course, let you know if this is likely to be the case.
How long does it take?
Usually we can produce the digitized version of your out-of-print or hard copy book within 3 weeks of receiving your order and book(s).
Then what?
Once you have approved the newly created Word version of your manuscript, it is ready to be converted into eBook format. Our prices for eBook conversion and distribution can be found on our Prices and Packages page.
