Pricing Options – ‘Read Aloud’ eBooks for iPad and iPhone

Apple now support synchronized audio narration and soundtracks to be included within their Fixed-Layout ePUB format.

We can produce stunning eBook versions of illustrated and picture books featuring a ‘read aloud’ option. This gives readers the ability to listen to a narration of the book along with the words being highlighted as they are read out. A looping musical or sound-effect soundtrack can also be included to play while the book is being read.

The reader can turn the soundtrack on or off, and also choose whether they want the pages of the eBook to turn automatically as the narration progresses.

‘Read Aloud’ eBooks will only work on Apple devices such as the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch which have the iBooks app installed. The only retailer who you can sell the files through is Apple, via the iBookstore and iTunes.

Creating a Narration

To add the ‘Read Aloud’ feature you will need to arrange for a narration of your book to be recorded. We would need the completed audio file along with your manuscript. If you would prefer to leave this to us, we can arrange for a professional narration of your book to be recorded for a reasonable fee. We would need to know what type of voice you would like to use and would find a suitable narrator. The price for producing a professional narration will depend upon the length of your book. Adding a Soundtrack

If you would like to include a soundtrack with your eBook, you will need to provide a digital or CD version of the audio track, and you will also need to ensure that you have the necessary permission to use the track. The music will need to be suitable for being played continuously (on a loop) as it will keep repeating for as long as your eBook is open.

Rather than a music soundtrack, you could include a sound-effect soundtrack. For example, if your book was set in the Amazon you could use jungle sound effects, or the sounds of tropical birds. Again, you will need to ensure you have the necessary rights to use the sound files.
