Converting a Print Book to eBook
Our book scanning service produces an editable Word version of the content of your print book, which can then be converted to eBook using our eBook Conversion Service. We get great feedback on our book scanning service and are confident that the quality of the output exceeds that of any other comparably priced service.
The book scanning service works in the following way:
- You post us a copy of your print book (or we source a copy), which we take apart and scan, one page at a time.
- We extract the content from the scanned files using technology called OCR (Optical Character Recognition), and produce a Word doc from the extracted content. We run a number of automated and manual checks on the content to minimize the number of errors. As the process is part-automated we cannot guarantee 100% accuracy and we do not proof-read the entire file.
- We will email you the Word doc for proof-reading and editing as you see fit. Once you are happy with the file, if you are using our eBook Conversion service, you can send it back to us and we will convert it to eBook formats.
Scanning Picture Books and Complex Layout Books
Usually the books we scan are predominantly text and can be formatted using Word’s standard layout tools. However, if you have a book that is mainly images or has a multi-column layout which you would like to retain, we can scan and reformat the content using InDesign to produce a near-replica of the original layout.
How long does it take?
We will usually have your editable Word doc back to you within 7 to 10 working days of receiving the print copy. If we need to reformat the content using InDesign (for picture books and multi-column layouts) the process can take an additional week.
